Halloween Crafts

Here’s a look at some Halloween crafting I’ve done recently! Lots of vintage inspiration and Edgar Allen Poe and The Raven inspired pieces.

book-mask
I took a standard mask and added to it making it a vintage, gothic book inspired Masquerade mask! I used real pages from an old Edgar Allen Poe book and decoupaged them across the face. Then using paper flowers with newsprint/handwriting motif, I accented it and added a crystal drop as well.

A trio of Halloween jewelry including a Gothic inspired Ouija Board necklace in gunmetal, a Spirit Board glass tile pendant and an Edger Allen Poe The Raven “Nevermore” brass cuff bracelet.

I took a plain journal and decoupaged real pages from an old Edgar Allen Poe book on the cover giving it a rough, ragged torn edges look. Then I added an image of a blackbird – a raven perhaps? – sitting on top of a pumpkin in front of an orange, harvest moon.

The back of the journal was decoupaged in more book pages as well.

spellbook1a
This witch’s book of spells started with a paper mache form that I painted orange and black accents and covered the front with a witch flying a broom image.

On the side of the spellbook, I hand painted “spells” and “potions” and detailed the spine in black accents.

And the “pages” of the book were first painted a cream color and then dry brushed with a fan brush in a black to give the illusion of pages.

bingo-tricktreat
I took a vintage Bingo card and made a paper rosette and added a vintage owl drawing. I spelled out “TRICK” across the top and “TREAT” on the pennant stickers across the bottom turning it into an adorable hanging sign!

I love Halloween and it’s so fun trying new things! I learned a lot of new techniques making these items and bought a lot of new supplies too. (Can you ever have enough craft supplies? LOL)

Steampunk Penny Farthing Necklace

This Steampunk necklace features a vintage inspired Penny Farthing bicycle charm in brass, accented with watch gears, roses, butterfly charm and crystal on 18″ chain.

This piece starts with a large, decorative Penny Farthing bicycle pendant in brass (or antique, aged gold color) measuring 3″ at it’s widest and 2.5″ at it’s tallest.

I have then embellished it with several accents including a large aqua/turquoise blue rose on the front wheel, genuine watch gears on the smaller back wheel (including a genuine, precious ruby in the clock movement), and a tiny Swarovski crystal in the gears.

There is also a butterfly charm added to the front wheel and two chains dangling from the bottom. The chains are mixed metals; one is a textured brass chain, the other, a silvery black metallic. Small, matching flowers in aqua/turquoise and orange/peach hang from the chains.

The pendant is finished with a 3-in-1 bronze chain and spring ring clasp with a total length of chain plus pendant of approximately 22″

It’s fun, whimsical and has a nice Victorian/Vintage style and feel.

Newest item in the PhoenixFunds Medical Fundraiser Shop is this cool steampunk item! Highly detailed metal bee charm is decorated with clockwork gears and tiny little genuine ruby gemstone accents making a very cool steampunk pendant or brooch.

This piece has a pendant loop to be worn as a necklace and it also has a pin back so it can be worn as a brooch. The bee’s back has been altered to include Swiss clockwork gears, parts and other steampunk touches. The vintage watch is Swiss movement with seventeen (17) natural rubies and made by the Crysler Watch Co.

Total length is approximately 1.45″ long and just a little short of 2″ at it’s widest point. Unique, one-of-a-kind piece!

Custom Cameo Necklace

I made a custom piece featuring a cameo in a black with red accent color scheme. She liked a modern twist on a vintage/retro style and had examples of pieces she liked which I used as the basis for this necklace. The dual strand necklace features a nice cameo which sits off-center and is accented with both black and red faceted glass beads. It’s approximately 18″ in length and finished with a toggle clasp.

She was very pleased with the necklace. I also made matching earrings (not shown.)
