Spinel And Copper Dangle Earrings

I had a little bit of the beautiful Spinel gemstone left over after making the Custom, four-strand Spinel bracelet for my Mom’s birthday and with it, I made a pair of Spinel Dangle Earrings in copper. Simple but a lot of fun. These I’m keeping for myself. 😉 I’ve already worn them and received a lot of lovely compliments on them.

The variation of color in Spinel is what makes it so amazing. I individually wire-wrapped each stone and then assembled them on a copper chain to make a little cluster. The tones of copper really look great with the colors of the Spinel.

As always, I am happy to do custom orders, so please feel free to contact if you have something in mind!

Three Generation Family Tree of Life Pendant

I received a custom order for a three generation Family Tree. She wanted something with the birthstones of May, August and November to represent three generations of her mother, herself and her daughter. I thought this was just the loveliest idea.

We set about discussing what we could do for the gemstones.

August is Peridot and it’s a semi-precious gem so that wasn’t too hard to find. I got some beautiful AAA grade micro-faceted peridot rounds.

November is Topaz and a slightly more difficult stone to find, especially given that November is yellow topaz and most available is a blue variation. However, I was able to find some coordinating AAA Imperial Topaz in a lovely pale honey color which was also micro-faceted. A small quantity for a fair price. (Still expensive in general but not for what it was.)

The last was the biggest challenge. Emerald is May’s birthstone. It’s gorgeous. And it’s also more expensive then diamonds. Finding real emerald in bead form was going to be extremely cost prohibitive. We opted for an amazing stone called, “chrome diopside.” Ugly name, lovely stone. It’s known as “Siberian Emerald” because the color is so rich and vibrant and so much like the emerald. It’s still a very expensive stone. I imported some from a seller in India for $50 but it was worth it when it arrived. The color was everything I’d hope it to be.

I used sterling silver wire as the outer circle, roots, trunk and branches. And the finished product came out amazing.

It’s truly magnificent. I’ll be mailing it this weekend to my customer. The quality of the gemstones are simply breathtaking. I must admit, while I’ve worked with gemstones before, this was the first pendant with one hundred dollars in just gems alone. And it shows. I hope this can truly be an heirloom piece for her and one her daughter can enjoy in the years to come as well.

If you can dream it, I can make it. So should you wish to have a Family Tree, a Memorial or Remembrance Tree or just something customized to your specific taste, please contact me. I’d love to make something amazing for you as well.

Update August 31, 2010
Wanted to share some of the wonderful feedback from the buyer. It warms my heart to know how well received the piece was especially given the deep meaning involved.

WOW!!! The pendant is beautiful. … I love it! Thank you so much for your hard work and quick turnaround on this piece. I couldn’t have asked for more. The presentation was wonderful as well. I am thrilled to be able to pass this to my little girl when the time is appropriate so that she will be able to remember her Gran and her Mama. What a beautiful heirloom.

Once In A Blue Moon

I’ve made a few of these before, and I try to keep them listed in my etsy storefront whenever possible, but this one was made as a custom order. (If there’s not one listed and you’re interested in ordering one, just drop me a note and I’ll be happy to put up a custom listing for you!)

once in a blue moon tree of life pendant

It’s my Tree of Life pendant but with a Blue Moon behind the branches. I love this style as it looks very spooky and mystical to me. Makes me think of Autumn or Winter; some of the long dark nights of the year.

Square Garnet Tree of Life Pendant Brown Wire

This pendant is handmade using painstaking wire-wrapping techniques. Permanently colored brown wire frames and encircles the pendant, and then non-tarnish copper wire is used as the roots, trunk and branches of the tree. Genuine round nuggets of garnet gemstone are used as the “leaves” of the piece. It is a very three-dimensional piece that rises up off it’s square frame and really brings depth and beauty to the pendant.

Garnet is a natural, semi-precious gemstone associated with the planet Mars, the zodiac sign of Aquarius and the birthstone of the month of January. Considered the stone of good luck in business, it’s also said to increase your self-esteem when worn as jewelry. It’s also the stone associated with the first chakra (base of the spine.)

Antique Gold Bird Nest and Swallow Charm Necklace

A bird’s nest has a lot of symbolic meaning including protection of the young and nurturing new generation and life. A nest is a home and a shelter and a Mother bird dedicates herself to the protection of her precious eggs. This process is celebrated in this piece.

A unique, antique gold wire is woven to form the nest shape and three teal glass pearl “eggs” are nestled safely within. Dangling from the nest is a single swallow charm in silver.

The pendant is attached to a matching antique brass/gold textured cable link chain. The total length is 18.5″ and is finished with a lobster claw clasp.

It’s delicate, feminine and unique. Something easily worn with any attire and yet a real conversation piece. Because each one is unique, no two would ever look exactly alike. This listing is for the exact pendant pictured.

*Please Note: As glass pearls are completely man-man, they are 100% vegetarian/vegan friendly and a great alternative for those who prefer cruelty-free jewelry options.

Midnight Skies – Blue Goldstone Tree of Life Pendant

Goldstone is a man made gemstone that has been around since the European Rennaissance. Originally created in Venice, Italy by monks studying alchemy, goldstone is created by adding molten copper into glass.

This crystallized into thousands of tiny crystals and formed a melt with golden light sparkles. This is how the first goldstone came about. Though it is not technically a gemstone, it is often referred to as one. Blue Goldstone is associated with learning and communication.

Blue goldstone looks like the most perfect night sky. The richness of the blue is so deep and dark and mysterious. And then there’s a fire and explosion of vibrant sparkles like twinkling stars within. It brings to mind some magical night such as Halloween when the veil between the worlds is thin and all wondrous things are possible.

Charm Bracelets

I’ve made a few loaded charm bracelets as custom pieces lately. They’re a lot of fun to make because I can sit on the couch, watch TV and make the dangles. Each bracelet usually takes a couple hours and it can be repetitive, but it’s also a little comforting at the same time. After I make enough dangles, I add them to the chain, filling in and arranging them to give a nice, full look.

The first is all shades of green. It’s a mix of various glass beads with some silver accents.

The second was inspired by colors of the ocean, and even has little beach charms mixed in such as shells, seahorses, etc.

And the third is a mix of purple, teals and pearl.

The beauty of this kind of bracelet is the possibilities are absolutely endless. You can do any color combination imaginable, and have it more or less full as desired. They look so lively when worn and really make any outfit more fun.

I normally don’t have many of these ready-made for sale on the store or the etsy shop but I’m always able to make one on custom request. So if you’re interested, please drop me a note and let me know! I’d love to make one for you as well.

Four Strand Spinel Bracelet

I made this lovely spinel gemstone bracelet as a birthday present to my mom. This was my first time working with spinel. In fact, I’d never heard of it before making this piece, but I loved the amazing variety of colors in the stone.

Spinel is the great impostor of gemstone history: many famous rubies in crown jewels around the world are actually spinels. The most famous is the Black Prince’s ruby, a magnificent 170-carat red spinel that now adorns the Imperial State Crown of England in the British Crown Jewels after a long history: Henry V even wore it on his battle helmet! The Timur ruby, a 361-carat red spinel now owned by Queen Elizabeth, has the names of some of the Mughal emperors who previously owned it engraved on its face: an undeniable pedigree!

I love how it came out, even if it was an amazing labor of love!

Agate Slice – Tree of Life Pendant #2

Following up on my first agate slice experiment, I’ve made another one. This slice of agate is the most amazing blue with blue and green rings like that of a tree trunk.

I’ve used blue topaz and amethyst gemstone chips on this one and made a more full Tree with more branches made from sterling silver wire. It’s still pretty free-form and it curves along with the rough edges of the agate slice but I really like how it just seems to be growing up and over some natural rock formation.

Love gave the thumbs up on this one so I hope everyone else likes it as well. I’ve still got more agate slices to play with, but I want to make sure with each, that I find just the right accent stones to go with it. On this one, the blue topaz and amethyst just seemed like the right fit. It’s available for purchase HERE in my Etsy shop. It’s literally one-of-a-kind and couldn’t be duplicated even if I wanted to!

As always feedback welcome! ;D

Agate Slice – Tree of Life Pendant #1

Of course you guys all know me and my crazy obsession love of making Tree of Life pendants. I just enjoy making them so much and I keep looking for new ideas and new ways of making them.

Well, I was at the Flea Market last weekend and I found some awesome flat slices of agate geode and got an idea to use that as a base for a Tree. This is the very first attempt. I have more slices in more colors and I’m going to be making some different versions as well but here’s the initial result:

It features moss agate round gemstone beads as “leaves” and sterling-silver plated wire for the trunk and branches. The geode itself is wrapped with an antique bronze wire. Agate is pretty much the oldest gemstone in recorded history and is THE stone for protection. Agate is said to attract strength, prevent bad dreams and aide against stress and energy drains.

I think this is a neat way of having both a cool stone pendant as well as something special and one-of-a-kind. Because of course every slice of agate geode would be unique, it’s impossible to ever duplicate something like this. And I think that the agate and the Tree are a cool combo.

It’s listed right now HERE on my etsy storefront.

Feedback welcome!
