"Hanks"
One-of-a-kind, Handmade Miniature Mystical Knitting Hutch in Sky Blue and Yellow.

I have only recently begun to work in miniatures. I created the first magical supply hutch as a gift for a friend. I wanted something faerie (fairy) sized; something that perhaps might be found in the little forest cottage where she lived. This one was also made especially for a friend who is opening up her very first business; a knitting store called "Hanks." I was inspired by her interests and passions to create this unique piece. It's painted a lovely sky blue with buttercup yellow accent and has been "aged" through strategic sanding to mimic years of usage. After painting I go to town creating all sorts of unique items to fill the shelves. It's very particular, precise work and it takes many, many hours to complete a single hutch.

This is my first hutch to have a knitting element though I don't think it will be my last!

Close-up detail shows off some of the amazingly intricate details. There's a crystal ball and silver bottle with four glass bottles on the top shelf. Within is "faerie dreams,"  sand from Atlantis, bottled sunlight, and "essence of love." The second shelf features more bottles, a tea set, and a stack of books bound in rope.

The bottle cubby features a trove of yarns and threads, scissors, three large handmade balls of yarn, knitting needles and a bottle of wishes tucked into the corner.

This hutch was meant to capture a combination of wonderment and craftiness. I absolutely love this piece and so would any knitter who wants a touch of whimsy and magic. It's a neat conversation piece to have out on display year-round. It measures around 6" in height at it's tallest point, 4" width and about 1.25" in width. The piece is hand signed on the bottom by the artist. (Me!)
