Halloween Crafts

Here’s a look at some Halloween crafting I’ve done recently! Lots of vintage inspiration and Edgar Allen Poe and The Raven inspired pieces.

book-mask
I took a standard mask and added to it making it a vintage, gothic book inspired Masquerade mask! I used real pages from an old Edgar Allen Poe book and decoupaged them across the face. Then using paper flowers with newsprint/handwriting motif, I accented it and added a crystal drop as well.

I took a plain journal and decoupaged real pages from an old Edgar Allen Poe book on the cover giving it a rough, ragged torn edges look. Then I added an image of a blackbird – a raven perhaps? – sitting on top of a pumpkin in front of an orange, harvest moon.

The back of the journal was decoupaged in more book pages as well.

spellbook1a
This witch’s book of spells started with a paper mache form that I painted orange and black accents and covered the front with a witch flying a broom image.

spellbook1b
On the side of the spellbook, I hand painted “spells” and “potions” and detailed the spine in black accents.

And the “pages” of the book were first painted a cream color and then dry brushed with a fan brush in a black to give the illusion of pages.

bingo-tricktreat
I took a vintage Bingo card and made a paper rosette and added a vintage owl drawing. I spelled out “TRICK” across the top and “TREAT” on the pennant stickers across the bottom turning it into an adorable hanging sign!

I love Halloween and it’s so fun trying new things! I learned a lot of new techniques making these items and bought a lot of new supplies too. (Can you ever have enough craft supplies? LOL)

Custom Gold and Peridot Set

I had a customer contact me in regards to a pair of 14k Gold Vermeil and Peridot Bali-inspired earrings I had made and sold. She really loved them and wanted another pair just like them. In addition, she wanted a bold, matching necklace and bracelet. We discussed her vision and I showed her my ideas and off I went!

I recently finished the set and I think it’s stunning.

custom peridot and 14k gold vermeil bracelet

bali inspired 14k gold vermeil and peridot necklace

This is a big, beautiful, set featuring very high-end materials. Vermeil is pure gold over sterling silver, making it beautiful and wearable. The peridot is all micro-faceted and in a stunning, rich, Spring green color. Together, they are just exceptional. Every piece of gold, from ball-tipped head pins, the detailed spacers, to clasps to chain is real 14k vermeil gold or better. The giant focal pendant is 23k vermeil gold!

This amazing set is an example of a luxury custom request. The buyer wanted something truly special and I was excited by the chance to create something so lovely. If you’re interested in your own custom order – be it high-end like this, or something within a budget – please don’t hesitate to contact me. I love creating unique, personalized creations!

Custom Swarovski Crystal Bracelet

I made this piece as a Mother’s Day gift. Her mom wears a lot of blue and brown and that’s a great color combo together so I ran with it. I used some Swarovski crystal accents, genuine Swarovski crystals in round and bicone and finished it with a Swarovski clasp. It’s pretty enough for a special occasion but can also be worn everyday to work or just out for the day.

As always, if you have an idea for a unique, truly one-of-a-kind piece, just email me! I’m happy to discuss what you have in mind and make something special just for you.

Custom Bird Nest Pendant Bracelet

I had a request to make a bird nest pendant with one pink and one blue Swarovski glass pearl; one each to represent a boy and a girl child. In addition, there is a sterling silver butterfly pendant to represent the Grandmother that has passed away. I completed the bracelet with a heart toggle clasp – just a little extra touch to show the love of the piece.

Here’s the finished result:

I do offer Customizable Bird Nest Pendants HERE on my PhoenixFire Designs shop @ etsy. I can also make pink/blue (girl/boy) pendants by request as well as other items such as this bracelet. You have an idea, I’ll make it happen!

Helm Chain Mail Bracelet in Silver and Gold

I recently learned a new technique – chain mail! My first pattern is known as the “Helm Chain” or “Parallel Chain.” This deceptively simple pattern features interlocked silver-plated and gold-plated rings into a classic, elegant pattern.

The bracelet is 7.5″ in length and is finished with an antique goldtone toggle clasp. Easily worn both everyday and for special occasions, this piece will get compliments when worn.

Whether as a gift, or for yourself, this, unique, signature piece would be a great addition to anyone’s jewelry collection.

Charm Bracelets

I’ve made a few loaded charm bracelets as custom pieces lately. They’re a lot of fun to make because I can sit on the couch, watch TV and make the dangles. Each bracelet usually takes a couple hours and it can be repetitive, but it’s also a little comforting at the same time. After I make enough dangles, I add them to the chain, filling in and arranging them to give a nice, full look.

The first is all shades of green. It’s a mix of various glass beads with some silver accents.

The second was inspired by colors of the ocean, and even has little beach charms mixed in such as shells, seahorses, etc.

And the third is a mix of purple, teals and pearl.

The beauty of this kind of bracelet is the possibilities are absolutely endless. You can do any color combination imaginable, and have it more or less full as desired. They look so lively when worn and really make any outfit more fun.

I normally don’t have many of these ready-made for sale on the store or the etsy shop but I’m always able to make one on custom request. So if you’re interested, please drop me a note and let me know! I’d love to make one for you as well.

Four Strand Spinel Bracelet

I made this lovely spinel gemstone bracelet as a birthday present to my mom. This was my first time working with spinel. In fact, I’d never heard of it before making this piece, but I loved the amazing variety of colors in the stone.

Spinel is the great impostor of gemstone history: many famous rubies in crown jewels around the world are actually spinels. The most famous is the Black Prince’s ruby, a magnificent 170-carat red spinel that now adorns the Imperial State Crown of England in the British Crown Jewels after a long history: Henry V even wore it on his battle helmet! The Timur ruby, a 361-carat red spinel now owned by Queen Elizabeth, has the names of some of the Mughal emperors who previously owned it engraved on its face: an undeniable pedigree!

I love how it came out, even if it was an amazing labor of love!
