Bookmarks!

As I’ve mentioned before, in addition to my jewelry, I’m also a crafty person in general. I enjoy a wide variety of crafts, craft projects and crafty hobbies. I also participate in a lot of craft swaps on Craftster as a result.

Recently, I needed to make bookmarks for someone. At first, I wasn’t sure how to go about it. I tried a few different types and didn’t like any of them. Then I wound up hitting on a great style; simple but with a wonderful result. I used my Cuttlebug, an assortment of embossing folders, a brayer (rolled brush for stamping), an assortment of rubber stamp inks and some assorted ribbon.

Here’s the result:

First, I ran the pre-cut bookmarks through various embossing folders to create a pattern and design. Next, I inked up my brayer with ink and rolled over the embossed image. Because it’s raised texture, you get interesting levels of color intensity. I repeated this process with different colors on the same bookmark until I liked the layered look of the colors. Finally, I punched a hole in the top and looped an coordinating ribbon to finish it off.

I found it was best to do them assembly-line style; all the embossing, then all the inking, etc. It took probably a couple hours all told but doing it a second time would probably be quicker. It’s an easy, afternoon project!

Here Comes the Sun

My Sun Tree is a unique take on the popular Full Moon Tree of Life Pendants I’m famous for. Featuring a warm yellow jade sun set in sterling silver plated wire, this is a little warm piece of a sunny day.

Here Comes the Sun – Tree of Life with a Yellow Jade “Sun”

The Tree of Life is a concept that’s been featured in myth, story and legend literally all around the world. Since ancient times, people have used variations on the theme. Connecting all things – the realms of the spirit, the physical, the Divine and the mundane – the roots of the Tree and the branches touch all things and bring them together in harmony.

This pendant is handmade using painstaking wire-wrapping techniques. Non-tarnish, sterling silver plated wire encircles the pendant, and is then used as the roots, trunk and branches of the tree. This tree is bare of leaves and features a large yellow jade round “sun” behind the branches. It warms up the piece reminding me of high noon on the Solstice.

I’ve long made “night” versions with various Full Moons, but I wanted to celebrate the bright warmth of a sunny day in this piece. The color is so sunny and happy, it’s a little bit of wearable sunshine!

Unique Full Moon Tree of Life Pendants

I’ve been on a kick making unique and limited edition Full Moon Tree of Life pendants lately. In addition to the ones regularly available in my shop, I’ve recently added several new ones as well.

First, is a one-of-a-kind piece. Featuring Fire Crackle Blue Agate in Gunmetal Wire:

This one of a kind Full Moon Tree of Life Pendant features a striking Fire Crackle Blue Agate gemstone moon set in bare, gunmetal wire wrapped branches. (Click to purchase)

Fire Crackle Agate is made by taking a natural agate and heating it, which causes unique patterns within and enhancing the stone. The blue is a deep, rich, dark royal blue with darker “veins” of color throughout.

THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND PIECE. I bought a small assortment of Fire Cracked Agate with each being a different color. I paired this particular one with the gunmetal wire. It’s like the color of hematite; that dark near-black metallic. When it sells, I do not have another to offer at this time.

Then, there’s a a duo: my “Blood Moon” trees featuring red carnelian agate set in either silver or gold wire.

Blood Moon – Tree of Life Pendant in Gold Brass Wire with Red Agate Gemstone Full Moon Limited Edition (Click to purchase)

It features a large, red agate gemstone round bead representing a “blood moon” behind the branches. According to folklore, October’s full moon is called the “Hunter’s Moon” or sometimes the “Blood Moon.” It gets its name from hunters who tracked and killed their prey by autumn moonlight, stockpiling food for the winter ahead. During a lunar eclipse, the moon actually appears to be a deep red in the sky as a result of the sun’s light interacting with the Earth’s atmosphere.

The Blood Moon is a Limited Edition tree. I bought a very small assortment of these specific agate gems and I’ve divided the availability up between silver and gold offerings. There are a total of TWO silver and TWO gold available and that’s it.

This is of course, in addition to the other Full Moon series which is ALWAYS available in the shop.

Purple Moon, Under A Full Moon, Halloween Moon and Once in a Blue Moon

And, I have even more on the way soon! Keep checking back. I’m also always happy to customize a tree for you with your choice of wire, stones, and colors. Since they’re made entirely from scratch anyway, there’s no problem in making it personalized.

Blood Moon Tree of Life Pendant

Two new, limited edition pieces in my ever-expanding Full Moon collection are now live in the shop! Avaiable in either non-tarnish, sterling silver plated wire, or a yellow gold non-tarnish brass wire!

Blood Moon Tree of Life - shown in both Yellow Gold Brass and Sterling Silver Wire

This tree is bare of leaves like one would see in Winter and features a large, red agate gemstone round bead representing a “blood moon” behind the branches.

Blood Moon - Tree of Life Pendant in Sterling Silver Wire with Red Agate Gemstone Full Moon Limited Edition

A beautiful, semi-translucent red agate coin bead measuring 18mm is the focal piece of this pendant. The agate is one of the oldest stones in recorded history, having been used in jewelry since Biblical Babylonian times! Said to aid in healing and protection, it’s associated with the Moon and the planet Mars.

And, like anything, these can of course be customized as well with your choice of wire and moon color combo. So if you have something in mind, just let me know! The Purple Moon came from a custom order and a few requests, so I’m always happy to make something original.
